Returns guide

Returning Your Hired Instrument

Pack it, scan a QR code, and post it back — no satchel to wait for, no printer needed.

Returning by post — how it works

Returning your instrument is designed to be as simple as possible — no waiting for packaging, no figuring out postage, and no printer needed. Everything you need is already in the box.

When your instrument was dispatched, we included a heavy-duty poly bag and a step-by-step instruction card. Keep these — they're your return kit.

1

Pack the instrument in its case, inside the original box. Include all accessories — see the list below for what should be there.

2

Take a photo of the instrument before you close the box — from all angles, with accessories visible. This protects you if there's ever a question about condition.

3

Slide the box into the poly bag and seal it. The bag conceals the contents and protects against weather.

4

Visit musicrentals.com.au/return and complete the return form — takes about two minutes. You'll need your email address and the mobile number on your account.

5

We'll email you a prepaid Australia Post return label — it arrives as a QR code. No printer needed.

6

Take the package to any Australia Post outlet, show the QR code on your phone, and hand it over. Get a receipt with your tracking number.

7

Your billing pauses immediately from the moment you submit the return form — we never charge you while your instrument is in transit.

8

We'll confirm receipt within 2 business days of the instrument arriving and close your account.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a return label?

You don't need to arrange postage yourself. When you submit your return at musicrentals.com.au/return, we'll email you a prepaid Australia Post label as a QR code — just show it on your phone at any post office. No printing needed.

What if I've lost the poly bag that came with the instrument?

Any sturdy bag or wrap that covers the box will do — the important thing is that the box is protected and the label is clearly visible. Contact us if you're unsure.

What if I've lost the instruction card?

Everything you need is at musicrentals.com.au/returns-guide. The return form and your prepaid label are always available there regardless of whether you have the original card.

Do I need to print anything?

No — the Australia Post label is sent as a QR code. Just show your phone screen at the post office counter.

How long does it take for my billing to stop?

Your billing pauses the moment you submit the return form — not when the instrument arrives. You're never charged for time it's in the post.

What if I can't get to a post office?

Contact us at info@musicrentals.au and we'll find a solution — including arranging a pickup in some circumstances.

Can I return before the 3 months are up?

Yes — you can return anytime after your first 3 months. The upfront payment covers months 1–3 and is non-refundable, but there are no charges beyond that once you return.

What if the instrument is damaged?

Normal wear and tear is part of the hire — we service everything between hires. If there's damage beyond fair wear, we'll assess it and contact you before any charge is raised. Your condition photos from the return steps above are the reference point.

What if I've lost an accessory?

Let us know when you submit your return form. Most consumables (reeds, valve oil) are expected to be used. For larger items, we'll discuss case by case.

How long does a refund take if I overpaid?

If your account is in credit for any reason, refunds go back to the original card within 5–7 business days.

Can I pause my hire instead of returning?

Not currently — the options are continue or return. If your situation is unusual, contact us and we'll see what we can do.

Ready to return?

Submit the return form and we'll email you your prepaid QR code label — takes about two minutes.
